My name is Erica Jones, and I am from Blue Ridge. I have always known I wanted to be a teacher, and I cannot wait to begin my teaching career here at NGCA! I am so excited to be teaching 4th grade this year, and I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to work in this wonderful, Christ-centered school.
After graduating from Fannin County High School in 2007, I attended one year at Kennesaw State University. Living and going to school in the city was not for me! Thankfully, God opened the door, and I transferred to North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega. I absolutely loved my experience there, and I graduated from NGCSU in May 2012. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood and Special Education with an endorsement in Reading. After graduation I planned on getting a teaching job and beginning my career, but God had other plans. I worked as a substitute teacher in the Fannin County School System for the 2012-2013 school year, and I am so thankful to have been blessed with such meaningful experience.
I have always had a huge heart for missions, and the day after I graduated college I went on a two week, teaching mission trip to Chinandega, Nicaragua with one of my professors and seven other girls from the education program at NGCSU. It was a life-changing experience, and I would love to visit again someday. Not long after my trip to Nicaragua, at the end of June 2012, God opened the door again for me to do His work. This time I traveled to Gallup, New Mexico to work with the people of the Navajo Nation. I was there for three weeks in July 2012, and the Navajo children absolutely captivated my heart. I was able to return to Gallup, with a group from my church, for a week in October 2012. The Lord allowed me to return a third time in June 2013. I had the opportunity to work as the Director of the children’s day camp/VBS on the Reservation. It was such a blessing to be a part of the work God is doing among the Navajo Nation.
I grew up in church at Epworth First Baptist Church in Fannin County. I now attend church at Shadowlands Tabernacle in Blairsville. I love singing, and I am a member of the praise and worship team at my church. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, painting, and laughing! I have a passion for children, and I love watching them learn and grow. I look forward to teaching your children this year, and I pray that I am always shining brightly for Jesus. I cannot wait to see what God has in store!
